A 28-year-old man has been charged after a car rammed into the doors of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum on Tuesday night.
Regina police say the crash happened at about 7:15 p.m.
They say the vehicle, a stolen Chevy Malibu, was heading south on Albert Street, turned east into the museum’s parking lot, going up the lane to the south-facing doors.
When police arrived at the scene, the vehicle’s airbags were deployed and blood was visible on the inside and outside of the car.
“Significant damage” was caused to the museum and the vehicle, says a news release.
The driver wasn’t inside the vehicle so police searched the area. They found the man inside the museum and he was arrested after a brief chase on foot.
The driver suffered a cut on his arm and was taken to hospital to be assessed.
He is now in police custody.
Okimaw Bear, who is from Meadow Lake, will make his first court appearance Wednesday morning.
The museum issued a statement on Twitter saying that they plan on reopening later this week.
The full value of the damage done to the museum is still to be determined.
