Despite limited staff, the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre reopened Wednesday morning.
Executive director Laurie O’Connor said staff spent Tuesday preparing food hampers for clients who haven’t been able to access the service since a COVID-19 outbreak forced them to close last weekend.
“We’ll do our best to get to as many folks as we can and play it by ear,” said O’Connor.
“We’re going to try to remain open all week. I think we’ll be able to do that with staff slowly being able to come back each day.”
Three staff members tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the centre to close and pause its emergency hamper program.
It’s the second outbreak to hit the food bank in three months.
“It’s a pretty terrible virus. It really does kick people in the butt,” O’Connor said. “We’re just making sure they’re able to come back and feel safe and well enough to be there.”
