For the second straight day, a record number of daily COVID vaccines were delivered.
In a news release Sunday, the Ministry of Health reported that 3,232 doses across Saskatchewan were delivered Saturday.
That topped the previous record of 2,857, which was set Friday.
The 3,232 vaccine doses were delivered in the following areas: Saskatoon (749), north-central (766), southeast (1145), Regina (453), far northwest (77) and far northeast (42) . The far north-central region also administered vaccines, but no data is available yet for Friday or Saturday.
During the weekend, 975 doses of the Pfizer vaccine were sent to the Battlefords. They will begin to roll out for priority healthcare workers Monday.
The news comes on the same day that three COVID-related deaths were announced.
Two of the new deaths were in the 80+ age group: one each in Regina and the north-central zone. The other was someone in their 60’s from the far northwest.
Despite the encouraging news on the vaccine front, the active case count continued to rise Sunday.
There were 287 new cases announced, along with 207 recoveries.
That raised the active total to 4,121. Since March, there have been 20,722 total cases, 15,936 recoveries and 215 deaths.
The new cases are located in the Saskatoon (94), northwest (21), Regina (37), southeast (13), north-central (27) far northeast (10), northeast (33), north-central (23), far northwest (10), central-east (nine), central-west (three) and far north-central (one) zones. Eight new cases are still pending residence information.
There were an additional five cases previously without a location assigned to the far northeast (three) and northwest (two) zones.
The seven-day daily average is 308 (25.5 cases per 100,000 population), down slightly from Saturday’s average of 311.
There are 203 people in hospital.
Of those, 33 are in the ICU in the Saskatoon (16), Regina (10), north-central (three), northwest (two), central-east (one) and south-central (one) areas.
There were 2,332 COVID tests processed Saturday, raising that total to date to 470,793.
