Independent schools in Saskatchewan received another $2.5 million in COVID-related funding from the provincial government Tuesday.
“This funding will provide additional support for independent schools that have seen increased enrolments due to the pandemic,” Education Minister Dustin Duncan said in a media release.
“Our independent schools and staff have done an excellent job in providing safe learning environments for students both in the classroom and remotely.”
The money is from the $150-million COVID contingency fund for education that was created from provincial and federal funding, as well as school division savings when in-class learning was suspended in the spring.
According to the government, independent schools in the province previously received $2.4 million from the contingency fund to cover costs associated with sanitation, the purchase of furniture and equipment, information technology and remote learning.
The new funding is being doled out based on schools’ enrolments.
Applications are to open March 1 for the next round of funding.
