The RCMP is investigating after a 29-year-old man was shot while sitting in a vehicle in Meadow Lake early Monday.
According to the Mounties, the man was shot at “several times” while he and two other people sat in a parked vehicle in the town.
The man, who was the driver of the vehicle, was struck once and suffered serious injuries. The other two occupants weren’t hurt.
“The vehicle was stationary at the start of the shooting and was put in motion during the incident,” the RCMP said in a media release. “The car struck a power pole during the incident, caught fire and was heavily damaged.”
The man was taken to hospital by paramedics who had responded alongside the fire department and the RCMP.
Investigators believe the injured man was the target of the attack, which they say was not a random incident.
