They’re considered heroes to many for what they’ve been doing on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, the staff in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Royal University Hospital have raised money for Saskatoon families in need.
Kelsey Doucette, a registered nurse in the ICU, told 650 CKOM’s Brent Loucks they raise money every year and this year wasn’t going to be any different.
“We wanted to raise funds for Adopt-A-Family and it was immediate — everybody just donated right away. There was no question,” she said.
Although the staff members at the RUH ICU have been working tirelessly through the pandemic, Doucette said they wanted to help those in Saskatoon who need the support.
“Our lives haven’t changed as far as income and job security goes, so we thought, ‘We need to help out as much as we can,’ ” she said.
The ICU staff raised more than $2,000 for 650 CKOM’s Adopt-A-Family.
In total, this year’s Salvation Army Adopt-A-Family campaign brought in more than $190,000 in cash, food and gifts. As a result, more than 960 families and 2,200 children will experience a special Christmas.
