If you’re looking for that perfect gift idea and want to support local businesses, a Saskatoon woman has created a Facebook page that does just that.
The Local Love Holiday Gift Guide connects shoppers with local businesses and vendors.
“The intent behind this was to have a bit of a platform where I could share ideas on where to shop for the holidays that were local because I think it’s really important right now to support our small local businesses,” said Michelle Cates, founder of the page.
With more than 10,000 members, Cates said she never expected her page to be so popular but she’s happy so many people are finding it useful.
“I have received a tonne of personal messages from people saying they have made a good number of sales through this platform, and that’s what it’s all about,” she said. “It’s helping people cross someone off their gift list and they’re doing it by purchasing locally.”
The group is also hoping to raise $5,000 to purchase food, clothing and toys for three local crisis organizations: Haven Kids House, OUTSaskatoon’s Pride Home, and Interval House Saskatoon.
