For once in 2020, it was not the COVID-19 pandemic that threw a major wrench in the way elections are run.
Instead, it was a massive blizzard that tore through the province Sunday that forced the postponement of the municipal votes in Saskatoon and Swift Current.
Voters will head to the polls in Swift Current on Thursday and in Saskatoon on Friday.
But it was smooth sailing in cities that did hold votes which, in most cases, saw the re-election of incumbent mayors.
In Moose Jaw, Fraser Tolmie held his seat with 55 per cent of the vote. It will be his second time serving in the position.
Incumbent Marcel Roy held his seat in Weyburn with 56 per cent of the vote.
In Estevan, Roy Ludwig held his seat with 1,632 votes. He has served in that position since 2012.
It was a tight race in Prince Albert, with incumbent mayor Greg Dionne narrowly holding off his challenger, former cabinet minister Darryl Hickie. Just 245 votes separated the two but Hickie is not asking for a recount, at least for now.
It will be a new face in Yorkton after Bob Maloney retired from politics. Two councillors entered the race to succeed him, with Mitch Hippsley defeating Aaron Kienle by 86 votes.
These results are unofficial and will be confirmed in the coming days.
