A number of city employees are shaken up after witnessing a man harm himself with a knife inside the lobby at City Hall Monday afternoon.
Police were called around 2:00 p.m., but say the man had already injured himself before officers could intervene.
The 21-year-old was taken to hospital and is believed to be in stable condition.
Police say no one else was threatened, however, city manager Jeff Jorgenson stated in a release that many staff members witnessed the event and “some may be deeply affected.”
“We understand what our staff members and first responders are going through, and we support them,” he said. “Our thoughts are also with the man that paramedics took to the hospital.”
The city said, counselling resources are available and one-on-one sessions are being arranged with trained counsellors for staff who need someone to talk to.
City Hall and the customer care line will be closed until 12 p.m. Online services are available.
The advance polling station at City Hall, accessible through door 1A, will stay open.
