Effective immediately, services at the Lighthouse in Saskatoon will be temporarily restricted.
The restrictions follow a COVID outbreak, announced Saturday at the supported living facility. According to a press release from the Lighthouse Tuesday, it will not be accepting clients into emergency shelters or its Stabilization Unit.
Current clients staying at the facility are to remain at the shelter, along with people cleared from the Assisted Self-Isolation Site hotel sheltering system.
According to the Lighthouse, if assistance is needed regarding emergency sheltering or housing assistance, agencies can contact the Ministry of Social Services. After 5 p.m., they can call the Salvation Army Emergency After-Hours shelter service line.
The Lighthouse Clothing Donation Program is also temporarily suspended, but monetary donations are still being accepted.
“The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is working closely with The Lighthouse for contact tracing and virus containment. Staff have followed protocols for COVID-19 safety since the beginning of the pandemic, under the guidance of Public Health. Staff quickly mobilized this weekend, along with the SHA, to get as many residents and staff tested as possible. Testing and active surveillance will continue for the next several weeks,” the release states.
This coming week, the staff at the Lighthouse will contact current families of residents to provide an update on their loved one.
On Friday, the SHA declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the facility.
The service disruption will be reviewed on Nov. 8, where it will be decided if the restrictions need to remain in place.
