A Saskatoon daycare has closed its doors temporarily due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
Preston Early Learning Centre’s Stonebridge location, housed in the same building between Chief Whitecap School and St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic School, had a staff member or child test positive for COVID-19 on Monday, which closed the facility temporarily. An additional two cases were reported Wednesday to keep the facility closed for two weeks.
All staff and children at the daycare from Sept. 22 to Sept. 25 were sent home to isolate and monitor for symptoms for 14 days since they were considered close contacts.
Preston Early Learning Centre Executive Director Lisa Leibel said parents are reacting well to the news.
“Our parents have been very supportive,” she said. “I’m sure there’s some anxiety around this news, and it’s news you never want to deliver to any family, but we’ve been receiving positive messages and encouragement from our families.”
The daycare will remain closed until Oct. 9.
Leibel remains confident in the centre’s safety guidelines and protocols after public health officials inspected the facility on Tuesday.
“We got positive feedback from them saying we were doing all the right things,” Leibel said.
No parents have removed their children from Preston Early Learning Centres programming because of the outbreak.
This is the second outbreak declared at a daycare in Saskatoon. The Centre Educatif Félix-Le-Chat declared one on Sept. 14. It has since reopened.
