A fundraiser for C95’s Radio Marathon for Breast Cancer Research had five mayoral candidates with pie on their faces Thursday afternoon.
The candidates, Charlie Clark, Don Atchison, Cary Tarasoff, Mark Zielke and Zubair Sheikh also brought in their own donations.
The object of the event was to auction a pie off to the highest bidder. If a candidate raised more money than a bidder paid for a pie, that person could then defer the messy whip cream concoction to someone else.
But as it were, every candidate took one to the face in the name of fun.
The Breast Cancer Awareness month kick-off event was held in the parking lot of the Preston Park Retirement Residence II, and abided by strict physical distancing and mask-wearing protocols.
Lifestyle Director Karen Waldner said while some seniors were able to set up chairs in the parking lot, many also watched the event from their balconies.
“They were bidding or just watching, having fun. This was our first Facebook live event as well and a lot of them were in their suites on their tablets and they were watching it… they always have such fun with this. It’s such a great community we have here. It’s been kind of a tough year, and it really helps boost everybody’s spirits.”
At least $1,500 was raised from the event.
