The U.S. Open is here for golf fans. The debate is where it ranks out of the four majors.
Some love it. Some hate it.
The opinions are so varied because of the course. Either you think it’s set up to challenge the best golfers, or it’s meant to embarrass the best golfers, with greens cut short and fast like you’re putting on a piece of steel. The rough is thick and high, with fairways as narrow as possible.
As far as entertainment value, I’d rather watch the Masters or the British over the U.S. Open. When I turn on the best in the world, I want to see incredible shot-making rather than players struggling to break par.
Winged Foot is one of the most prestigious and difficult courses in North America and it will definitely be a test.
The last time the U.S. Open was there, Geoff Ogilvy won at five over par. Yes, bogeys will outnumber birdies and the only guaranteed winner this weekend will be the golf course.
