Cathy Watts says she was able to leave this world on her own terms.
The cycling enthusiast and advocate for safer cycling in the city, died in her home Tuesday after suffering a massive stroke last week.
Watts, who turned 72 on Sept. 3 said goodbye to her friends and family in her obituary published on the Saskatoon Funeral Home website.
“If you are reading this, I’m no longer here. I recently had a very bad stroke. It robbed me of my body but not my spirit,” it said.
“Don’t be sad and certainly don’t send flowers. Here’s what I want you to do instead. Support my beloved Saskatoon Cycles, because there’s still a lot of work to do. Then get on a bike, head for a trail and feel what it’s like to be free.”
Watts also acknowledged the special bike ride that passed her home on Monday which was organized to celebrate her efforts to make cycling safer and more accessible in the city.
Watts served as co-chair for Saskatoon Cycles for a decade.
