Finally!
It’s time for professional football. Football fans have been starved for the game since the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl in February.
The XFL’s season was quickly sidelined. Then it was the Canadian Football League and U Sports seasons to be cancelled and many of the big schools in the NCAA have been parked or waiting a few more weeks.
When you rank my favourite sports, football hits No. 1. I grew up pretending to be Ray Elgaard or Kent Austin. I had posters of Joe Montana. I had Bo Jackson’s No. 34. I played Tecmo and edited Madden rosters to have CFL representation.
The fall schedule was Friday night football, Notre Dame on Saturdays and then Sunday and Monday watching the four-down game.
I’ll be enjoying Kansas City starting its Super Bowl defence tonight against Houston, keeping my fingers crossed COVID-19 doesn’t disrupt yet another football season.
But it almost feels inevitable that, without being able to play in bubbles, like in baseball, there will be delays, postponements and positive cases.
This year, 2020, has been a year like we’ve never seen before. The NFL will be no different.
