A new shelter for youth is coming to Saskatoon.
According to the Ministry of Social Services, the project will house 10 placements. It will serve youth of all genders aged 16 to 18.
“(The shelter) will ensure they have an immediate and safe place to live 24 hours a day, seven days per week, while making positive social connections and obtaining secure, long-term housing or placement,” an emailed statement to 650 CKOM from Mitch Tremblay, an executive director with the ministry’s child and family programs reads.
The Ministry has called out for a Negotiated Request for Proposals (NRFP) on the project, which can be seen here.
“During their stay, young people will be provided with safety and security, as well as assistance in developing a support system consisting of family, friends and professionals,” Tremblay’s statement continues.
“We hope to be able to share additional details, including a projected opening date, as the project moves forward.”
According to the NRFP, the youth shelter will provide a safe residence for youth from Saskatoon, Prince Albert and surrounding areas.
Youth will be able to stay in the shelter for up to 30 days, but exceptions may occur if they don’t have an “appropriate placement” by the final day.
The proposal does not include capital funding.
