Welcome to September and the time I’m really starting to miss the Canadian Football League.
As we’ve been watching sports come and go and shortened seasons, the sporting calendar has been thrown for a loop. We’re watching the Stanley Cup playoffs in August, for crying out loud.
But it’s hitting home that there won’t be a run for the CFL’s Grey Cup this fall. This is a week we’d be gearing up in green to welcome our eastern neighbours with their blue and gold.
The trash talk would be great. You know the line: Why does the Red River run through downtown Winnipeg? Because it’s too scared to walk.
Yeah, and the Bombers fans would give it right back.
The stadium would be packed, the energy would be electric and the night before would be a fun night in downtown Regina with the pre-game festivities.
This year was supposed to be revenge for the loss in the 2019 West Division final.
And of course, the clich in the CFL is the season doesn’t really get started until Labour Day. Oh how I wish that were true in 2020.
