A person in their 50s who lived in the southwest area of Saskatchewan has died due to complications from COVID-19.
It’s the 24th COVID-related death reported in the province since March.
The provincial government reported the person’s death Wednesday, when it also announced there were 30 more recoveries and three new cases.
The new cases — all of which are in Saskatoon — increased the total in the province to date to 1,604. The new recoveries reported Wednesday hiked that total so far to 1,520.
There now are 60 active cases being reported — the lowest such number since there were 40 active cases on July 11. The following day, the number of active cases jumped to 62 and continued to increase into the 300 range before sliding back down.
According to the government, 24 of the 60 cases currently considered active are in communal living settings.
Three people are in hospital in Saskatoon, with two in intensive care.
There have been 413 cases from the south area (213 southwest, 189 south-central, 11 southeast), 352 in the far north region (346 far northwest, six far northeast), 259 from the north zone (125 northwest, 68 north-central, 66 northeast), 254 in the Saskatoon area, 194 from the central area (161 central-west, 33 central-east) and 132 in the Regina region.
Of the total number of cases in the province, 818 are community contacts, 484 don’t have any known exposures, 233 are travellers and 69 are being investigated by local public health officials.
The total also includes 66 health-care workers.
There have been 516 cases in the 20-to-39 age range, 492 between the ages of 40 and 59, 276 aged 60 to 79, 264 involving people 19 and under, and 56 in the 80-and-over range.
There were 1,186 tests done in the province on Tuesday, increasing the total to date to 135,518.
