The Saskatoon SPCA is dealing with an overpopulation of cats within the city.
In a release Tuesday morning, the organization outlined its new deal on cats called “Purrfect Pairing.”
It allows those looking to adopt the animals to get a second cat discount of $95 if they’re interested in multiple cats.
Additionally, anyone who has adopted an animal from the Saskatoon SPCA is eligible to save $95 on their next cat adoption.
Currently, 127 cats are being sheltered at the Saskatoon SPCA, with another 57 in foster care. That has the shelter at full capacity.
“We’re doing the best we can,” Graham Dickson, the organization’s executive director, said in the release. “Our mandate is to provide care for Saskatoon’s homeless, lost, abandoned, neglected, and abused animals and we can’t keep up.”
On average, the Saskatoon SPCA cares for more than 2,700 cats each year.
“We know Saskatoon is a compassionate community. Today there are 44 cats ready to be adopted into new homes right now, and tomorrow there will be more. These cats are just waiting for their second chance,” Dickson said in the release.
“If you want to lend support to the SPCA, consider adopting a new family member, and please spay and neuter your pets.”
All animals adopted from the Saskatoon SPCA are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, assessed for their health and behaviour, and are eligible for a complimentary exam.
Regular fees for Saskatoon SPCA cats range from $113 to $243, which includes City of Saskatoon licensing.
