The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a possible fire on top of Dr. John G. Egnatoff School Friday night.
Fire crews received notice from the Saskatoon Police Service alerting to a possible structure fire at 200 Kenderdine Road.
Three fire engines, one rescue unit, one aerial ladder truck, one fire investigation unit, and one battalion chief were dispatched for response. The incident was reported to police after neighbours witnessed what appeared to be a ball of fire on the roof of the school.
Upon arrival, fire crews made their way to the roof and began searching for the fire, but were unable to locate it. However, firefighters did find discarded items and traces of an accelerant that had previously been on fire.
While on the scene, fire crews were made aware of a boy in the area with burns to his back and neck. Paramedics attended to the boy before he was transported to the hospital for minor burns.
No damage to the structure was identified, but the fire investigator has reasonable evidence to suggest that a deliberately set fire occurred.
