Power was out for a few hours in the city’s North Industrial area Thursday after a truck hit a power pole at Faithfull Avenue and 42nd Street East.
Just before 1 p.m., the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call about a crash. The caller said a truck hit a power pole, knocking down several live power lines.
The crash was right in front of Fire Station 4, so crews got to the scene in about 20 seconds.
In a release, the fire department says a significant amount of transformer fluid was found to be leaking onto the ground.
Fire dispatchers reached out to several utility providers and an environmental clean-up company was sent to the scene.
The driver and lone occupant of the truck was medically assessed by firefighter-paramedics before being taken to hospital by ambulance with what were believed to be minor injuries.
The release says it is understood the driver may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the collision.
Power was restored to the area at about 3:45 p.m.
