We are now officially two weeks past the date I thought would be a drop-dead date for the CFL to get a season started in a bubble in Winnipeg.
Timing-wise, to get a CBA done, to get federal health officials to sign off, to secure a $30-million loan, to arrange three weeks of pre-bubble isolation and testing for players and then have a 10-day training camp could take, at the minimum, six weeks.
This timeline would put the first games to be played Sept. 25.
Under that scenario, it would actually allow the Grey Cup to be handed out in late November as usual. But that’s only if an announcement comes today.
I feel like I’m in the movie Groundhog Day, with the same conversation over and over.
And with all the other sports coming back, I’m hearing more and more fans almost to the point of not caring if we get the CFL back at all.
Fans are discouraged, disengaged and now becoming disinterested. And it’s extremely concerning how much of an impact the mismanagement of the 2020 season will have beyond this year, with or without football.
