The Government of Saskatchewan announced 27 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday – including 22 from communal living settings.
Of the 166 active cases in the province, 95 are in communal living situations.
“The Saskatchewan Health Authority continues to work closely with Hutterite communities throughout the province,” the government said in a media release. “While many of these communities have seen a significant decline in active cases, aggressive testing and contact tracing continues to find new cases in some communities.”
The cases reported Thursday included 18 in the southwest area of the province, four in the south-central region, three in the Saskatoon area and two in the Regina region.
After Thursday’s report, the southern area has become the province’s hotspot, with 359 cases (178 southwest, 170 south-central, 11 southeast).
The total number of cases to date in Saskatchewan is 1,511.
The province also reported 11 more recoveries, increasing the total so far to 1,325. To date, 20 Saskatchewan residents have died due to complications from COVID-19.
Five people are receiving inpatient care in hospital, with three in Saskatoon, one in Regina and one in the north-central region. Five people — three in Saskatoon, one in the north-central region and one in the southwest — are in intensive care.
Of the total number of cases to date, 775 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 411 don’t have any known exposures, 216 are travellers, and 109 remain under investigation by local public health officials.
The province’s total includes 64 health-care workers.
There have been 352 cases in the far north area (346 far northwest, six far northeast), 245 in the Saskatoon area, 233 from the north region (101 northwest, 67 north-central, 65 northeast), 190 in the central area (160 central-west, 30 central-east), and 131 from Regina and surrounding area. The hometown of one case remains undetermined.
In total, there have been 479 cases in the 20-to-39 age range, 476 between the ages of 40 and 59, 255 in the 60-to-79 range, 246 involving people 19 and under, and 55 in the 80-and-over range.
There were 1,800 tests performed in the province Wednesday, increasing the total to date to 116,804.
The government once again says the Saskatchewan Health Authority is aiming to increase testing capacity to 3,000 tests per day by the middle of August and 4,000 tests per day by the beginning of September.
