A 20-year-old man is facing several charges after police responded to a break and enter in progress during which a gun was pointed at an officer early Saturday morning in the Mayfair area.
In a release, Saskatoon police say at around 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a break and enter in progress at a home in the 1600 block of Avenue B North.
It had been reported that two people entered the house unlawfully and assaulted a person, who then fled to safety before calling the police.
The two suspects were reportedly still inside the home when police arrived.
An officer went to the back of the home to investigate and police say as the member turned the corner, a man was standing on the deck pointing a gun at the officer.
The officer was able to take cover behind a nearby tree. The Tactical Support and Guns and Gangs Units responded and a man and a girl were eventually negotiated out of the home and taken into custody.
A sawed-off rifle was seized from inside the home following the execution of a search warrant.
The 20-year-old man is charged with using a firearm in the commission of an offence, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a weapon obtained by the commission of an offence, possession contrary to an order, assault and assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.
The 17-year-old girl faces a single charge of assault.
