After more than six decades in the city, the Saskatoon German Cultural Centre will be closing its doors.
It announced on Facebook that it will be permanently closing on August 30.
The German Canadian Club Concordia was founded in 1957. At that time members socialized at different venues around Saskatoon. In the summer of 1968, the first clubhouse was opened in the former Chicken Inn. The club was run solely by the members who visited it.
In 2009, a fire destroyed the clubhouse before the new facility was rebuilt in June 2011.
In the Facebook post, the board of directors pointed to “the path that 2020 has taken” as a reason for shutting the doors for good. In past years the centre was a venue for many events and gatherings.
The restaurant will be open until the end of the month on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
Due to the path that 2020 has taken, we are regretfully announcing the permanent closure of the German Cultural Centre…
