A veteran member of the Saskatoon Police Service who is retiring from the force at the end of September has announced he will be running for city council in the fall civic election.
Sgt. Brian Shalovelo has served on the police force for 37 years.
Shalovelo will be running in Ward 8, which sits on the east side of the city, encompassing Brevoort Park, Brighton, East College Park, Greystone Heights, Holmwood and Briarwood.
Earlier this week Shalovelo sent an email to media outlets hinting at his plans to run.
Ward 8 is currently represented by Sarina Gersher.
The civic election is set for Nov. 9.
