A second person is now facing a second-degree murder charge in the death of a Saskatoon woman earlier in July.
Saskatoon police said in a release that officers formally arrested a 21-year-old man at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary on Thursday morning, where he was being held on unrelated charges.
He’s charged in connection with the killing of Hailey Belanger-Weeseekase, a 19-year-old woman who was found dead in a car behind a Confederation Park apartment building on July 11.
Her sister told 650 CKOM Belanger-Weeseekase was trying to find a way to leave gang life behind when she was killed.
A 15-year-old girl is also facing a second-degree murder charge in Belanger-Weeseekase’s death.
The 21-year-old man is due to make his first court appearance at Saskatoon provincial court on Aug. 4 at 9 a.m.
