On July 21, garage and yard sales got the green light to resume in Saskatchewan.
The announcement did come with restrictions, as group events are not allowed right now.
“We have hand sanitizer, lysol wipes to wipe things down, signs indicating social distancing, we are also wearing masks,” said Joanne Ellis, who operated a garage sale at her home in the Massey Place neighbourhood on Saturday afternoon. “It’s been great to go through the cupboards and get rid of stuff I don’t need or get rid of stuff I don’t use.”
For people that typically have a garage sale every year, the news of the ban being lifted was very refreshing.
“This is a once a year type of thing for us, it’s nice to catch up with people we might not have seen for a while,” said Pat Ramage, one of many people who hosted a sale at her home on Saturday. “I found things that I didn’t even know I had, or couldn’t remember why I had bought it. We put them in a pile for the garage sale and here we are today.”
“We have had a great turnout so far,” Ramage added.
“I think people are happy to be able to browse around and attend garage sales again.”
