The Saskatoon SPCA has launched an investigation after a video surfaced online purportedly showing a cat being dragged along a sidewalk.
Director of Communications for the shelter, Jasmine Hanson says the video is upsetting, however, it’s important to gather all the facts before passing judgement.
“There’s always more to the story, than what circulates online. I trust our animal protection officers to investigate and find out more about the circumstances surrounding the video.”
The shelter has made contact with the person who shot the video.
On Thursday morning, the cat was taken into the custody of the shelter by animal protection officers.
Hanson says the cat is doing well, and the SPCA can’t release any more information on the case, because it involves a minor.
She also says the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
Hanson said the punishment under the Animal Protection Act can range from a fine to being barred from owning animals for a period of time.
The shelter encourages people to submit concerns about animal welfare on their website.
