We now know more about why the Humboldt Broncos have suspended one of their assistant coaches.
According to RCMP Spokesperson Rob King, Curtis Toneff has been charged with assault in connection to a May 24 incident in Humboldt.
Toneff was suspended by the Broncos yesterday, with the Broncos saying he will no longer have any association with the team until further notice.
The Nanaimo, B.C. product was formally charged on June 2. He will appear in Provincial Court in Humboldt on Aug. 17, 2020.
The Broncos have deleted Toneff’s information from their website and staff directory.
The team says it will not comment any further while the case is before the courts.
Toneff’s first season behind the bench with the Broncos was 2019-2020, following five years coaching in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League and the British Columbia Hockey League.
