Saskatoon police are telling drivers to find different routes or expect delays as a protest walk from La Ronge to Regina moves through Saskatoon on Friday afternoon.
Walking With Our Angels, organized by Christopher Merasty and Tristen Durocher, will travel south along Idylwyld Drive and east along Circle Drive over an estimated span of four-and-a-half hours, starting at 2 p.m.
The walk is aimed at demanding action for suicide prevention across Saskatchewan.
Police will be escorting the walkers through the city, which will also weave down Avenue A, 19th Street and across the Sid Buckwold Bridge.
The public is being advised to gather to watch the walk along Avenue A and 19th Street.
In a Facebook post Friday morning, Walking With Our Angels asked people if they see, “any negativity on social media please do not share or feed into that hate.” Instead the group is asking people to respond to those posts with the walk’s name.
The request comes after members of a walk to remember a missing Indigenous woman were subjected to a post by a man who suggested someone should “run through” the people for blocking traffic. The man was investigated by police, stepped down as president of minor hockey in Waldheim and was allegedly fired from his job.
