Police say a 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl are facing charges after a taxi driver was robbed Monday morning.
Just before 9 a.m., police received a distress signal from a taxi at Avenue W South and Appleby Drive. The driver said a male and a female broke through the Plexiglas partition in the taxi before assaulting him, stealing items inside the vehicle and fleeing on foot.
Patrol members including a canine team searched for the suspects in the area. They received information from neighbours and other people nearby that helped them locate the pair.
Both were found to be in possession of a number of stolen items. The girl was also in possession of a knife.
The male taxi driver suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
Both suspects are facing charges of robbery. The girl is also facing charges of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and breach of probation.
Police also responded to a 911 call at around 4:20 a.m., for a report of a man assaulting occupants of a home in the Mount Royal area.
Police say it was reported that an unknown man was in the home in the 100 block of Avenue R North armed with bear spray and assaulting occupants.
When officers arrived, they found an injured man lying in front of the home. The 26-year-old was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Inside, officers found that two women, ages 20 and 21, had also been assaulted and the interior of the home had been damaged. They found the male suspect and took him into custody. He was in possession of bear spray.
The 29-year-old man is now facing charges of aggravated assault, two counts of assault, mischief, possession of a weapon, uttering threats and breach of court conditions.
