The Saskatoon Fire Department dealt early Friday with two fires that investigators say were deliberately set.
In the first of two media releases, the department said it responded just before 6 a.m., to a 911 call of a fence on fire in the 400 block of Avenue I South.
Fire crews were on the scene in about two minutes and found a small pile of debris on fire near a fence. A fire extinguisher was used to contain the damage to a small section of the fence.
Damage was estimated at about $250.
Witnesses reported seeing a young person in dark clothing run away from the scene of the fire before crews arrived.
At about 6:40 a.m., the fire department got a 911 call saying some trash was on fire beside a garage in the 1100 block of Avenue C North.
Firefighters got to the scene in less than three minutes and, in an alley behind the supplied address, found debris and the garage on fire.
The flames were brought under control within minutes, keeping the fire from reaching neighbouring properties.
Damage in that blaze was estimated at around $5,000.
The investigations are continuing.
