Saskatoon police say officers saved the lives of three people suffering overdoses overnight on Monday.
The first call came in around 10:30 p.m. when a responding officer found a 43-year-old man unresponsive behind a convenience store on the 400 block of 3rd Avenue North.
The officer used Narcan, an aid to block the effects of an overdose, and performed CPR until he was transported to hospital, according to a media release.
Officers responded to a second overdose around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday on the 100 block of Avenue R south.
A 29-year-old woman was found unresponsive in a home. An officer used Narcan and performed CPR.
Lastly, a 50-year-old man was found laying on the sidewalk on the 800 block of Idylwyld Drive North around 2 a.m.
An officer used Narcan to revive him before paramedics took him to hospital.
“These three calls highlight the difficult work our members do in a community that is, like many others, dealing with addictions and mental health issues,” Chief Troy Cooper said in a media release. “Even under the current environment, including navigating the risks associated to COVID-19 and being video recorded by bystanders, our members continue to show professionalism in their well-trained response to emergencies as such was the case last night.”
