A 16-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl are both facing several charges, including assaulting a peace officer, after an incident early Thursday morning.
At around 12:45 a.m., a patrol officer saw a male and a female yelling at each other in the area of 23rd Street West and Avenue K North.
When police tried to intervene, the male provided a false name to police and resisted arrest. While the officer was trying to take the boy into custody, he attempted to hit the officer. An altercation ensued during which the girl also began to assault the police officer.
Other officers arrived and helped take the youths into custody. The male was found to be in possession of bear spray, and the female was concealing a knife in her waistband.
The boy is charged with assaulting a peace officer, obstruction, possession of a dangerous weapon and breach of probation. The girl is charged with assaulting a peace officer, possession of a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.
The officer involved was not seriously injured.
Bear spray deployed at police
A 20-year-old man is facing several charges, including assaulting a peace officer, after police were sprayed with bear spray on Friday.
At around 5:45 a.m., patrol officers went to the 400 block of Avenue X South to investigate reports of a gunshot. The officers tried to speak to two men who were seen walking in the area, but one man began to run from them.
As police ran after the man, he deployed bear spray toward them. Police were unable to locate him afterward. One of the officers suffered from the effects of bear spray.
After further investigation, police found the man at an apartment in the 500 block of Avenue X South on Tuesday.
In another attempt to flee, the suspect rappelled from the third-floor balcony but a canine unit took him into custody. He was transported to hospital for treatment of dog bites.
The man is charged with assaulting a peace officer, possession of a dangerous weapon, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of methamphetamine and breach of probation.
