Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) is still coming to Saskatoon, but it will be a lot later than initially expected.
In November 2018, MEC announced that it would be coming to the Midtown Plaza for a targetted opening of Spring 2020.
Now, a representative of MEC is saying it’s targetted to open in late 2021.
“We will continue to follow the advice and guidance of local health authorities as we move forward in confirming a design partner and begin developing a compelling concept for our Saskatoon MEC location,” an emailed, prepared statement reads.
“We look forward to moving ahead in the best interest of our Co-op and our members.”
The 20,000 square-foot store is expected to be a community hub for those looking to get outside and be active. That includes MEC hosting classes, clinics and meet-ups.
MEC has reopened 15 of its 22 stores so far, amid the coronavirus pandemic.
