Saskatoon got its first taste of live music in months.
Brett Kissel performed three one-hour shows outside the SaskTel Centre Saturday night.
Over a thousand people in a sea of vehicles came to see the award winning country artist perform during his drive-in concert series.
Kissel super fans Nicole, Diana, and Ashley said this was not a concert they were willing to miss.
“We went and saw him in Edmonton when he did the drive in’s there. After tonight, I will have seen Brett 27 times in concert,” said Nicole. “It’s different compared to his usual shows, but still so much fun.”
“He’s country, but he rocks,” said another woman as she laughed.
Concert-goers were happy to finally get a taste of live music, something that has been missing from the city since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The usual sounds of applause were a bit different than a typical concert, as claps and cheers were replaced at times by a wave of people honking their horns.
Kissel’s band had some restrictions that they had to deal with as well.
There were sheets of plexiglass that are meant to provide some physical distancing between the band members.
This did not deter Kissel from finding ways to interact with the crowd.
“We wanted to make sure that everybody knew the party was in Saskatoon,” Kissel said to the crowd.
The fact that people had to stay close to their vehicles and not mingle with other attendees did not deter the feeling of the show.
If anything, it made it more of a memorable experience for those who attended.
“It’s such an amazing concept, something to get us out of the house,” said a woman who drove in from Prince Albert.
Saturday night was Kissel’s final stop in his drive-in concert series.
