Jamie Nye: Refreshing to see B.C. not sacrifice health and safety to be hub city

Good on B.C. for not giving the NHL star treatment when it comes to health and safety protocols.

The province’s chief medical health officer and the NHL didn’t see eye to eye on the protocols that would need to be in place if there was a case on a team or an outbreak on a team if Vancouver was picked as a hub city for NHL games.

The NHL sounds like it just wants to power through, while B.C. was a little more interested in having the NHL play by the same rules as the people living in the province.

And when you look at the court of public opinion, it sounds like there aren’t a lot out there who want to see the NHL getting treated differently just to get a boost of income for a month or two.

It’s a bit refreshing that provincial officials didn’t just roll out the red carpet like their neighbour to their east, which is sending promotional videos to sell Edmonton to the NHL as a hub.

Health and safety seem to be the clich leagues say they care about with their players.

But I’m starting to feel like they are yet again proving to be hypocrites, as it seems B.C. cared more about the health and safety of the players than the NHL.
