The Saturday Night Clang and Bang, as many residents in the Greystone Heights community have called it, has brought people together through the unprecedented times of COVID-19.
With hundreds of people either showing appreciation for front-line workers from their front porch, or driving through the parade, this Saturday was the biggest turnout yet according to organizer Gary Koop.
“Everybody was out today. There was great community spirit, and looking at all the food we have for the food bank. It’s very rewarding,” said Koop.
People in Saskatoon have been making some noise for front-line workers since late march, but this event has continued to grow each Saturday, Koop explained.
Not only are people showing their support for essential workers during the pandemic, they’re collecting donations for the food bank.
“I didn’t really know what to expect, my friend said bring something to bang. I’m just amazed that a neighborhood would gather together and do this, it’s awesome,” said Kelly Pollock who made over an hour long commute.
“It was just a thing to celebrate the people who are still working during this time, now its a whole parade,” said Roshlow.
“It’s been quite crazy to see how big it’s gotten,” chimed her daughter.
What started as a small gathering of support, has grown to be much larger than that.
“It’s satisfying. We’re doing some good, and it all started out with banging some pots and pans together, now look at what we have gathered here,” added Koop as he pointed to the table overflowing with donations.
“This was the best one yet.”
This was the final ‘Clang and Bang’ for the time being.
