If you are one of many people in Saskatoon who have been missing your trip to the library, you can now access materials in a modified manner.
Libraries in the province have been shut down since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March. They are part of Phase 4 of the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan, so they’re still closed to the public.
However, a new service will allow people to access library materials in a contactless manner starting Monday.
Books and other library materials can be placed on hold by calling the library, ordering online or by using the library app.
On its website, the Saskatoon Public Library (SPL) says you will receive a notification when your items are ready for pickup.
You must make an appointment to pick up your items, and show your library card, or provide your card number and photo ID.
SPL says pre-exisiting holds will be processed first.
Holds are for SPL patrons and materials only. Provincial resource-sharing, inter-library loans, group loans and book deposits and delivery services remain suspended.
The loan period has increased to 28 days for all items, the number of items available for checkout has decreased to 50 items per card, and there aren’t any late fines for any library material at this time.
Book returns will also reopen Monday. The library is asking people to hold on to borrowed material so branches are not overwhelmed at the beginning.
If you are sick, you are asked to not return any library materials.
All returned items will be quarantined for 72 hours before being checked in. Patrons are encouraged to quarantine materials for an additional 72 hours before taking them into their homes.
