Fitness enthusiasts in Regina are excited to get back to the gym.
Fitness facilities were allowed to reopen Monday as part of Phase 3 of the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan. They had been closed down by public health orders issued during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
980 CJME made a visit to Brickhouse Gym on Dewdney Avenue to chat with people excited to get back to pumping iron.
Chad Auty made a visit as soon as he could.
“It has been 10 weeks … but who’s counting?” he said.
Over that time, he did manage to keep up with his training by investing in some home equipment.
“I went out and spent a bit of money. I bought a squat rack and kept it in the back of my office,” he explained.
However, he’s still glad to be able to hit the gym.
“It feels good, a bit of a sense of normalcy again. It has been a little up in the air, just waking up and not being able to do what you love. So it’s nice to get back to it,” he said.
Dre Hein made the trip with his dad, Colin. Just like Auty, they were able to keep up their routines, but they’re still glad to be back in the gym.
“I like being able to come here. There’s only so much you can do at home …,” Dre said. “It’s nice knowing that when you come here, you’re here at a gym. When you’re at your house, it could be a workplace, a gym (or) a house. Here, it’s just the gym. You’re here just to work out.
“There’s something about the mentality here that makes it effective.”
The staff were also very glad to get back into the regular routine.
Adam Swanson with Divergent Training contracts out of Brickhouse Gym. He said the COVID-19 pandemic was a shock at first.
“If this was a lifestyle you lived beforehand, you had it stripped away from you in the blink of an eye,” he said.
Being able to return is a big comfort for him and the rest of the staff.
“It just seems like the world’s right again. Everyone’s coming back. The energy in here is insane,” he said.
