UPDATE: 8:50 p.m. – SaskPower’s Joel Cherry tells 650 CKOM a power outage in Saskatoon affecting potentially thousands of customers in the River Heights, Brighton, Arbor Creek, Erindale, Forest Grove, and Sutherland areas – was caused by a crow at the Sutherland sub station, which services a large part of the city.
Cherry says it’s common for wildlife and fallen trees to cause those kinds of outages.
About half of the customers have had their power restored, while the other half of the outages should be restored by about 9:30 p.m.
The lights are out this evening in several Saskatoon neighborhoods.
According to SaskPower’s Joel Cherry, the outages were first reported around 7:30 p.m. and crews are currently investigating the cause.
Cherry says so far, River Heights, Erindale, Sutherland, Brighton, Arbor Creek and Forest Grove are currently without power, possibly affecting thousands of customers.
There are also reports that College Park is affected, however the area is serviced by Saskatoon Light and Power.
At this point, it’s not clear when power may be restored.
