Saskatchewan records one new COVID-19 case, no recoveries

Saskatchewan reported one new case of COVID-19 on Wednesday and zero recoveries.

It’s the first time since April 29 the provincial government didn’t have a recovery to report. New cases outnumbered recoveries for the first time since May 10.

The new case, which is in the far north, increases the total in the province to date to 647. So far, a total of 602 people are said to have recovered.

There are 34 active cases in Saskatchewan, including 24 in the far north, four in Regina, three in Saskatoon, two in the north and one in the south. The central region doesn’t have any active cases.

To date, 11 Saskatchewan residents have died due to complications from the coronavirus.

There are two people in intensive care, both in Saskatoon.

Of the 647 cases, 389 are community contacts, 142 are travellers, 77 don’t have a known exposure and 39 are being investigated by local public health officials.

The total includes 51 health-care workers.

There have been 257 cases in the far north, 169 from the Saskatoon area, 112 in the north, 80 from the Regina area, 17 in the south and 12 from the central region.

The total comprises 230 cases in the 20-to-39 age range, 197 between the ages of 40 and 59, 106 in the 60-to-79 classification, 96 among people aged 19 and under, and 18 in the 80-and-over range.

The 539 tests done in Saskatchewan on Tuesday increased the provincial total to date to 49,132.
