More than 20 people were forced from their homes Thursday evening after a fire in a multi-unit apartment building in the 100 block of Avenue U South.
According to the Saskatoon Fire Department, multiple 911 calls reporting smoke in the building were received just after 5 p.m.
Firefighters had to contend with heavy smoke when they entered the building, but they managed to find two residents inside a unit and get them out.
The unit where the fire started was found and the blaze was brought under control within 20 minutes of the crews’ arrival on the scene.
There weren’t any serious injuries.
The fire department said the probe into the fire is continuing, but an investigator is confident it started in the kitchen of one of the units. Damage to the building was estimated at around $125,000.
The Canadian Red Cross helped 23 people find temporary accommodations in the wake of the fire.
