Saskatoon fire crews dealt with several suspicious fires early Thursday morning in the Pleasant Hill and Meadowgreen neighbourhoods, and one in the Lawson Heights area.
The first call came at around 3 a.m., when crews responded to the 1900 block of 20th Street West for two garage-like structures on fire.
Both were on the same property. Firefighters were able to bring the fires under control in about 10 minutes. The property was boarded up and confirmed to be unoccupied and no injuries were reported.
The second call came at 3:07 a.m. While extinguishing the structure fire on 20th Street, one of the engines had to be redeployed to attend to a garbage bin fire in the 2000 block of the same street.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and checked for extension to a nearby power pole and transformer. No extension of the fire was found.
Then at 3:09 a.m., dispatchers received multiple 911 calls about two commercial garbage bin fires in the 500 block of Avenue X South. Fire crews extinguished the fires in less than 10 minutes.
The next call came at 3:16 a.m. While on the scene of the Avenue X fires, crews found another garbage bin on fire further down the block. It was extinguished in minutes.
At 6:56 a.m., a 911 call came in about a commercial garbage bin on fire in the 100 block of Reindeer Road. Firefighters were able to get it out quickly.
The fire department says all of these fires are considered to be suspicious in nature and are under investigation by both Saskatoon police and the Saskatoon Fire Department.
