UFC 249 was weird, not having fans in attendance reacting to a big punch, the knockouts or submissions.
Not having fans wasn’t anything that would turn me off watching sports. There are some buildings that have terrible atmospheres anyway.
So when play-by-play man Joe Buck says FOX is more than likely to be using the equivalent of a sports laugh track as well as trying to put virtual fans in the stands for wide shots like they put the fake first down line on the screen, I’m a no.
Of course we shouldn’t be surprised. It was FOX who came up with that ridiculous glowing FOX puck on its hockey telecasts back in the day.
I want sports to continue in their natural environment. Even if fans aren’t cheering for touchdowns, we at home will be reacting anyway.
I’ve never reacted differently to a play because of the in-house crowd noise.
Plus, I’m extremely curious what we’ll hear from the field mics now that they won’t be drowned out by the crowd noise.
