A 32-year-old Saskatoon man is facing a number of charges after a police pursuit that ended in a field west of the city.
According to the Saskatoon Police Service, officers saw activity consistent with drug trafficking near 11th Street West and Avenue Q South on Saturday at about 1:30 a.m.
Police attempted to stop a vehicle, but it evaded officers. The Air Support Unit located the vehicle as it headed west out of the city.
“The suspect drove through a field where he eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot,” said a police media release. “He was taken into custody by the RCMP a short time later.”
Before the driver tried to run, officers in the plane saw him throwing numerous items out of the car. A canine unit later found the items.
Police found 373 grams of methamphetamine, 69 grams of cocaine, a bulletproof vest, ammunition, cash, two scales, six cellphones, prepaid credit cards and other drug paraphernalia.
The man was charged with two counts of prohibited possession of ammunition and one count each of possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, evading police, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
