A dog is dead after an incident involving officers from the Kindersley RCMP detachment.
On Thursday, officers went to a home to check on a person who was recently released from custody.
While the officers were in the process of checking the person’s compliance with the conditions of release, a large, aggressive dog confronted them.
According to an RCMP media release, the dog broke free from an occupant inside the home and ran through the open door, charging at the officers as they attempted to retreat.
Both officers drew their pistols and, to avoid being attacked by the dog, one of the officers fired a single round from his service pistol. The bullet struck the dog and stopped its charge toward the officers.
The dog was later euthanized by animal control officers.
The incident is still under investigation and will include an independent review.
