The $1.33M rent reduction comes from what the club owed during seasons impacted by the pandemic.
Estevan Police Chief Paul Ladouceur is calling a video of the recent arrest of a man by two of the city’s police members “disturbing.”
The video was posted to Facebook on Sunday by Cole Heath.
The person recording begins the video mid-arrest, after two police officers have a person detained on the ground in front a furniture store. One of the two police members appears to punch the person three times.
The video is 22 seconds long.
In a media release the police service confirmed “the physical arrest of a male in the area of 6th Street and 13th Avenue. The situation escalated quickly resulting in officers using force on the individual.”
In the release, Ladouceur said: “There is no doubt that the video is disturbing; however, the video only represents a portion of the overall interaction.”
Ladouceur said he has contacted the provincial Public Complaints Commission to ask for a “comprehensive, objective, independent investigation into the actions of members involved.”
He also said: “As a police service we are accountable to the public we serve. I am certain that the public has many questions surrounding the incident and I believe the public is entitled to answers.”
He said the police service will update the public after the PCC finishes its investigation into the arrest.

As I was not there I can’t speculate or answer any questions to the engagement of what appears to be excessive force of our local police department These officers are armed with plenty of none lethal equipment to apprehend criminals but yet a few good punches to the head or body could cause long lasting damage to a person…PSA: It is not a crime in Canada for anyone to photograph a uniformed police officer, as long as the photographer does not obstruct or interfere with the execution of their duties; and it is a violation of their Charter rights to prevent anyone from doing so.
