Health precautions are being increased at some Saskatoon gyms as the coronavirus scare continues to grow.
“It’s not rocket science what we are doing. We are just looking to ensure that the precautions are in place and that we are making sure that our members still feel comfortable coming to our facilities,” said Brittany Klassen operating partner of Orangetheory Fitness Stonebridge.
“We encounter a lot of people who encounter a lot of people so we want to make people feel comfortable coming in, getting their workout in knowing that we are taking all the necessary precautions available to us.”
Some of the precautions include increasing the stress they put on wiping down all used equipment between sessions, asking people not to come in if they feel ill and even reducing physical contact as much as possible.
“We have always done an enthusiastic high five coming into class but changing that to a little bit of a fist bump so still that let’s get this class going, let’s kick some butt mentality but with a little bit less interaction,” said Klassen.
Orangetheory works on a reservation-based system with an eight-hour cancellation policy but Klassen wants to ensure people that no penalty will be given if a class is missed due to illness.
According to Klassen, the gym is stocked up on disinfectant wipes and encourages members to not be shy about asking for more if needed.
